A LITTLE LESS EXCITING: Finally I found an example of the style of Capoeira I'm learning. Note how slow it is and its one fluid motion. It looks kind of silly in fighting matches, but only the really good people do that - in class we just learn all the moves in different orders and practice the muscle control needed to hold them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgx1ARgPVwc
THIS ONE IS INSANE: Here's an example of a different style, the kind I saw some of at the demo I went to today. its more flash than traditional movements, or so I'm told by the guys at the demo, but wow is it incredible what some of these masters can do after 10 years of doing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJKR4cOt2Dc
"Precisely because we're all sitting in the same boat, we should be very glad that not everyone is standing on our side." (Gerade weil wir alle im gleichen Boot sitzen, sollten wir heilfroh darüber sein, dass nicht alle auf unserer Seite stehen.) - Ernst Ferstl (1955- ), Austrian teacher and aphorist
"The history of the world is also the sum of what might have been avoided." (Die Weltgeschichte ist auch die Summe dessen, was vermeidbar gewesen wäre.) - Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967), West Germany's first chancellor
"Impatience is fear." Ungeduld ist Angst. - Stefan Zweig (1881-1942)
THANK GOD. Finally the pendulum may be swinging back in the other direction. We now have the first female speaker of the house, a sassy democrat lady named Nancy Pelosi, from San Francisco of all places. Now the House has 33 more democrats than republicans, and the Senate the republicans will not have enough people to have majority. Now just to wait for the next presidential elections... this is making me slightly more hopeful, which is good because I really don't have any good job connections that would allow me to skip the country if things got much more irritating than it has been.
Update: Fuck yeah. Minnesota just elected the first Muslim Congressman ever - Keith Ellison. He's also the state's first black congressman.
AMEN TO FUCKIN MASSACHUSETTS. My state just elected the first Democrat in years, and the first African American to be governor, by 20% over the Republican candidate. Seeya douchebag Romney! My state also just elected the first female Attorney General in its history, as well. I am pleased with these results. I like these folks, for the most part. Very pleased.
However, enough people voted against proposition 1 that we STILL can't buy wine in supermarkets. I mean wtf. This place is so contradictory. We're all liberal oh lets all hug, but then we have these Puritanical "blue laws" where alcohol can't be sold in certain towns, and you can't buy wine in a grocery store in most of the state. Its just bizarre. The liquor store lobby broke records for how much they spent to get this law shot down, so they'd be the only ones w/the licenses... and it sucks people bought into it.
Now I wanna at least see the Dems get control of congress. Sure they don't have any plan, but at least if there's more of them they can veto the batshit insane ideas coming from the Republicans. I'd rather stand there drooling on myself than let any more patriot acts go through.
Yay quiz night. Yay third place. We got a round of drinks, but I was already too tipsy/drunk so I had to turn it down because I have work tomorrow. Boo. I was in a good spot though, still am. Way fun. There was even a guy with a robot hat who was very drunk (and cute in a frat boy kinda way) who kept telling us how awesome we were and how much he loves us. Way to go robot head guy!
"caught" is pronounced "cawht", not "cot", mo'fos.
What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Northeast
Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.
